Marathon Runner vs. Legendary Walker
According to an AP article, "Even a marathon runner like Bill Frist should have known better than to challenge a
legendary walker like Lamar Alexander to a foot race."
Frist, a surgeon and marathon runner, and Alexander, Senate majority leader entered a contest by counting steps to "highlight the serious problem of obesity." The contest grew from a national campaign promoting changes in fitness and diet.
The two changes promoted by America on The Move are walking more and reducing calories. More specifically, they recommend taking at least 2000 more steps each day and reducing caloric intake by 100 C.
"The final tally for Team Alexander was 5.3 million steps versus 4.1 million for Frist and his staff" when wearing a pedometer for a period of six weeks.
